STUDENT STORIES

An insight into the impact education has on empowering young people and their communities

As a children’s education charity, we’re constantly evolving and creating new opportunities to support young people. Our programs are still in their early stages, yet we’ve already made a difference with help from our generous donors. These stories highlight the transformative effects of our efforts on the children and families we serve. We will continue to update the impact stories page with new case studies, highlighting the work we do. Each story gives a personal insight into how our donors’ contributions are making a tangible difference.

EMPOWERING MARIA IN HONDURAS

One of our first success stories comes from our scholarship program in Honduras. Maria, an 11-year-old girl from a rural village, walked six miles in rural mountainous streets. She was unable to attend school regularly due to the lack of transportation and the need to help her family with daily chores.

Through our “Adopt a Student” initiative – a program that provides scholarships for low income students – Maria received full financial support for her school tuition, supplies, and transportation, as well as daily meals and access to medical care.

Within just one year, Maria’s academic performance improved dramatically, and she became one of the top students in her class. Her story is a testament to the power of education and how our support can break the cycle of poverty.

INSPIRING JACOB AND FELLOW CODERS IN THE U.S.

In the United States, we have been piloting our after-school coding program in a low-income community in Boston, Massachusetts for the summer of 2024. The program, which introduces children to computer programming and AI, has already shown promising results.

Jacob, a 12-year-old participant, had never been exposed to coding before joining our program. Within months, he developed a passion for technology and even created a basic app to help his classmates organize their homework. Jacob’s story is just the beginning, as we plan to expand this program to reach more children across the country.

KITTING OUT CARLOS IN CENTRAL AMERICA

In Guatemala, our Project Toolkit initiative has already begun to make a difference. We organized a Run-Drive in the town of San Juan to distribute school bags filled with essential supplies to children who attend the local public school. One of the recipients, Carlos, an eight-year-old boy, had been sharing a single pencil with his two siblings.

Receiving his own school kit, which included notebooks, pencils, and other essentials, not only improved his academic performance but also boosted his confidence. Carlos is now more engaged in class and dreams of becoming a teacher one day.
